A well known 1995 New England Journal of Medicine study by Rothman and colleagues reported increased prevalence of certain birth defects with high preformed vitamin A intake, particularly above approximately 10,000 IU/day from supplements. The AICIS assessment summarizes the same human study: more than 10,000 IU/day = 3,000 µg = 3 mg retinol equivalents/day was associated with increased prevalence of certain defects in that study. 🙄 ‼️ The one sentence to remember is: Humans can have about 3 mg retinol orally equivalent per day is the upper limit (5.5 mg retinyl palmitate) 🐁 Rat experiment: 1,000 mg retinyl palmitate for every kg of body weight, given.
