The dogs that settle beautifully in public didn't just ‘grow out of’ being excitable… Someone taught them. One of the most overlooked skills in dog training is simply learning that not every environment is there to interact with. What to Do ⬇️ Find a bench, a log, a grassy verge, or somewhere comfortable. Sit down. Watch the world together. Reward every sigh, every soft body posture, every glance back to you, every moment your dog chooses calm over chaos. This isn't about forcing your dog to lie still. It's about giving them repeated opportunities to discover that the world doesn't always require a response. Ultimately, calmness is a behaviour… and behaviours can be practised. Save this for your next walk and give it a try.
