I take it personal. If somebody wants to hurt someone else, where I swore an oath to protect, and this city where I swore an oath to protect, I will die trying to protect and I have a family. I'm going to take you to these areas right now where we've had shootings, homicides, 10, 12 years ago. It was a violent community. It used to be called the projects. It was probably one of the most infamous places in Seaside, low income, gang drug activity, which, surprisingly for kids, was the safest place in America. Some of these areas that people classify as like the hood, other than, you know, straight bullets can fly, but they're actually, the mindset, the safest place a kid can walk, no one's going to hurt a kid in the projects. It's not happening. A little kid. We had a case, it was a 1982 homicide of a five-year-old girl. I get the goosebumps even talk about it because we solved it in 2022. He went free for 40 years and we cracked that case through DNA. This road, this had that history before my time. Before my time, all the old-timers would tell me that you couldn't anywhere around here unless you had about three officers with you because they used to actually shoot at the officers, throw bottles at them rocks. So this playground right here in 2017, like the residents here and we got all that donated. We had a committee and it used to be a sandy, nasty playground and a mom with a little kid saying, honey, get out of there. I don't want you to bring fleas home again. What did she just say to her kid? And that launched and now every time I drive by, have everything. It's awesome. Wow. Good for you. It's pretty cool. And this driveway here, I saw the 1969 cold case homicide. Was murdered. They just opened this up. It was December 21st, 1969. There was a party behind that building, and he was stabbed in the center right there and laid and died. The relationship with the police and the community was so bad, the police couldn't get to him. I wasn't even born. They couldn't get him. I read all the reports. They couldn't get him because the people didn't trust the police. They wanted to go in. So many people. So many people. So he bled out. He bled out and died, and he was cut, slit his throat. And I solved that in 2010. How do you solve a murder from that long ago? I finally had a guy who I met who witnessed and he was because he was shipped off to the military and everything. I have him on video. Was collaborated. We had no DNA. This is how bad the police were. A police officer, you, I'm being honest, of my own profession. The cops back then, they had two bloody knives that they recovered of bloody clothes from two people that they knew. One of them was the guy they ended up arresting. They destroyed it all within a year. In those days, I think they just didn't give a. But number two is that they realized, like, there's no real DNA back in the 60s, they sent it off to a lab. When they got back, it's blood, but we can't determine if it's human blood or animal blood. It's like, then you destroy it. It's just crazy. I have no clue. I can't even talk to all those guys by the time I picked up the case.
