“Part 1 hit 117K views, so apparently Ghanaians are ready to fight over their spending habits. 😂🇬🇭 And yes… TIRAMISU made the list.” 1. GH₵600 Tiramisu. I said what I said. 😭 2. Overpriced matcha you don’t even enjoy. 3. Brunch that costs more than your weekly groceries. 4. Food you ordered because TikTok said “you HAVE to try this.” 5. GH₵30–GH₵50 delivery fees when you could pick it up. 6. Paying extra because the restaurant is “aesthetic.” 7. Expensive bottled water at restaurants. 8. ₵100+ meals you don’t even remember the next day. 9. Buying food because the packaging is cute. 10. Going to restaurants just to take pictures. 😆 THE “I’M JUST ENJOYING MY LIFE” SECTION 11. Buying a new outfit for every event. 12. A new wig because someone on TikTok changed theirs. 13. Clothes you’ll wear once and never touch again. 14. Designer-inspired bags that cost too much for what they are. 15. Buying shoes because they’re trending. 16. Perfume you bought for the bottle. 17. Skincare you don’t even know how to use. 18. Every viral beauty product. 19. A gym membership you visit twice a month. 20. Paying for aesthetics instead of actual quality. 🌝 THE DIGITAL MONEY LEAK 21. Subscriptions you forgot exist. 22. Apps you downloaded and never opened again. 23. Buying unnecessary data because you’re bored. 24. Paying for premium features you barely use. 25. Constantly upgrading your phone. 26. Buying a new phone because your friend bought one. 27. Expensive accessories for a phone you already want to replace. 28. Paying for Wi-Fi AND excessive mobile data without checking your usage. 29. Buying gadgets because TikTok made them look essential. 30. Anything you bought at 2 a.m. because “the deal ends tonight.” 😂 🇬🇭 THE GHANA-SPECIFIC PAIN 31. Betting and calling it a side hustle. Football dominates betting activity in a recent 2026 GeoPoll survey. 32. Borrowing money to attend every wedding. 33. Borrowing money for funerals just to maintain appearances. 34. Buying drinks you can’t afford because your friends are watching. 35. Money spraying just to prove you’re doing well. 36. Taking loans for vacations. 37. Borrowing to buy a phone. 38. Renting a place you can barely afford because “the area is nice.” 39. Taking Bolt everywhere when trotro would do. 40. Paying convenience costs without realizing how much they add up. Ghana’s convenience economy increasingly includes ride-hailing, delivery, laundry and other services. 😮 THE BUSINESS/CAREER TRAPS 41. Buying huge stock before testing your market. 42. Renting a shop before proving demand. 43. Paying for a fancy logo before making your first sale. 44. Courses you have no intention of completing. 45. “Mentorships” promising overnight wealth. 46. Anyone promising you a guaranteed job for money. 47. Buying equipment because you want to “look like a business owner.” 48. Paying influencers without checking whether their audience actually buys. 49. Starting a business because TikTok said it’s profitable. 50. Anything you bought because you were scared people would think you’re broke. “And before the Tiramisu and Matcha people drag me…” I’m NOT saying these things are inherently bad. If you love Tiramisu and can comfortably spend GH₵600 on it? Eat your Tiramisu in peace. 😂 If matcha makes you happy and you can afford it? Drink your green water. I beg. 😭 The problem is when you’re financially struggling but still spending money because something is trending, everyone has it, or you want to look like you can afford it. That’s not financial freedom. That’s financial peer pressure. The goal isn’t to stop enjoying your money. It’s to stop spending tomorrow’s money to impress today’s audience. Ghana is already expensive enough. Recent cost-of-living data puts an inexpensive restaurant meal in Accra around GH₵80, while a mid-range meal for two can run around GH₵500. You don’t need to participate in every expensive trend. Your wallet doesn’t care what’s viral. 🇬🇭
