On Friday night, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney pulled his negotiators out of trade talks with the United States and called them home. President Trump just put this truth out. Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years. Their ridiculously high tariffs on our farmers and farm products has made life impossible for these great American patriots, and has long created a 60 billion dollar deficit between our two countries. Not sustainable, and NOT ANYMORE! On January First, 2027, Tariffs on all Cars, Trucks, both large and small, Automotive Parts, and Steel, will be increased to 50%. Build in the U.S. and there are ZERO TARIFFs. Canada will be treated like a State no longer. On Trade, and in other ways, also, they are among the worst Nations in the World to deal with. They feel entitled, and yet, WE DON'T NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US! They do 95% of their business with the U.S., with us, the exact... A few minutes ago, Jameson Greer, our trade representative, explained what happened. Just remember how we started this. The Canadians over a year ago, they prohibited the sale of American wine and spirits in their stores. They put limits on how many autos could go into Canada. And even before that, they restricted dairy into Canada. So lots of new issues with Canada. After about a year of asking them to eliminate these, they said no. So we proposed very tailored tariffs, uh, about 5%... send us. The Canadians came to us about a month ago. We'd like to... and we did. And they did. We got we progressed to a point, uh, Tuesday night where, uh, we had enough agreement among the parties that we had to announce that we had, we had found we had found a way to a deal. We set... finalize it, uh, and then in the last hours, uh, there were... the Canadians, uh, you know, they wanted more. We offer... we offered them the best, uh, access to of any country in the world. They simply, they wanted more. Political, it certainly doesn't make economic sense, but, uh, perhaps for, for political reasons. What he said about Canadian retaliation. Because earlier this summer, as these trade disputes escalated, Greer Americans that Canada was the only country besides China that had retaliated against President Trump's tariffs. It cannot plausibly inflict equivalent damage on an economy many times its size while remaining so dependent on access to that market. The U.S. still takes roughly 72 percent of Canadian goods exports. 72% and vulnerabilities than just raw size. Take energy is running around the world. Canada's energy production muscles touting growing exports to Asia. But it turns that 60% of Quebec's refinery supply, Western Canada, pipelines that go through the United States. Do you really provoke a fight with a country your own fuel travels through critical and metals are worse. Canada has them in abundance, but doesn't process them. It ships them to China or the United States. The finished product back. Aluminum and steel are right of this fight. The US put 50% tariffs on them. Greer says offered to slash those tariffs dramatically. Carney said no. Carney said no. Economically insane. Why did Carney do it?
