Let's talk about nestlé. Everyone keeps saying why aren't we talking about Nestle? Fair point. Let's talk about it. Nestle has been paying as little as $200 per year to pump millions of gallons of water every single day from aquifers. Water that they bottle and sell for a massive profit. In Michigan, after the state approved for Nestle to stop increasing their extraction, they stopped giving free water bottles to the residents that still had lead contaminated tap water. And it doesn't stop there. In California, Nestle drew about 58 million gallons of water in 2021 from the San Bernardino Forest. Bottled water companies such as Nestlé extract and deplete the precious groundwater supplies of communities all over the world. This lucrative business also leaves large amounts of waste contaminated by microplastics. Water that supplies over 750,000 residents. Nestle is a massive problem. But big AI is also draining our water supply. An average data centre uses 550,000 gallons of water every single day just for their cooling systems. We don't have to choose which of them to hold accountable. But in the meantime, if you're still using big AI, you should switch to something that practices harm reduction like EcoGPT, which uses 10 times less resources and it plants a tree for every 100 prompts. That's one small thing that we can control.
