If you give money to church and generally take the standard deduction, pay attention because 2026 changes affect you. Hey everybody, I'm Diane Hagerty, Grass Roots Taxes. I got good news. Bad news. The good news. Charitable donations are going to count again, even if you take the standard deduction. The bad news is your goodwill receipts. Yeah, they don't count. Starting in 2026, the standard deduction will be able to take $1,000 in charitable deductions. In addition to the standard deduction, you have to itemize. That means each taxpayer. So if you file together, that's $2,000. Listen carefully. This has to be cash giving. You have to give money, not goodwill. Not giving your old stuff away. Every little $5 donation to school or every round up at the cash register thing. Get that receipt, they're all going to count for you for 2026. Start looking back. Another note. This isn't automatic. Don't just show up and be like, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll take the $1,000 thing. Uh, no, you have to have receipts or a church giving statement, some kind of statement from them. Audits only care what you can prove. They don't care what you say. This video is just for people taking the standard deduction. If you normally itemized deductions on the federal, common anymore, if you normally on the federal, this is not good news for you. This is bad news for you. That's part two. Watch that video. And remember, please like this video, follow along for more free information. Don't forget to save your charity receipts. You at tax time. I'll see you at tax time.
