More Americans are spending their prime working years without a spouse or romantic partner, reflecting a major shift in how relationships and family life are changing. A Pew Research Center analysis found that 38% of U.S. adults ages 25 to 54 were unpartnered in 2019, up from 29% in 1990. The share who had never married also nearly doubled over the same period, rising from 17% to 33%, while marriage rates fell and cohabitation increased.
