MISSION 01/06: THE CONGO BASIN In just over a month, I’ll be heading to Central Africa to begin the first expedition of Project 6. The mission: kayak 700+km along the Sangha River, starting in Nola in the Central African Republic and finishing in Mossaka, Republic of Congo. Around three weeks travelling through the Congo Basin, the second-largest tropical rainforest on Earth and home to forest elephants, crocodiles, hippos, snakes and plenty more that I’d rather not bump into 😅 But the wildlife isn’t the biggest concern. Malaria, infection, extreme heat and humidity, contaminated water and being days away from proper medical help are all very real risks. Before we begin, I’ll spend time with the BaAka people, learning from their knowledge of the rainforest and the skills they’ve developed from generations of living within it, before taking what I learn onto the river. This is the Congo Basin. Expedition 01 of 06. Project 6 has begun. 🌍
