probably one of the most controversial summer camp topics is unpacking the kids things before they arrive at camp. so let's talk about it 7 week sleepaway camp. we unpack all of the campers from our 7 year olds all the way through to our 16 year old now all the kids come with two duffels each from bedding to sports equipment to clothes, shoes to bunk junk and everything in between. they come with a lot of stuff. the parents and the kids will pack the trunks at home and ship them up to camp. and now we receive them and do all the unpacking for them. and it typically takes us around 2 days to get the bunks fully ready the campers to arrive. honestly, it's one of my favourite things that we do for the kids. it is nice for them to arrive and have all of their stuff unpacked and ready. now they've obviously more than okay to shuffle things around and move their things exactly where they want them to be when they get to camp. now I get a lot of people say they think this limits the kids independence the chance to do it themselves. now I get what you're saying but camp already teaches so many incredible life skills and kids are extremely independent at camp regardless of them unpacking their bags. so again, it honestly comes down to the amount of kids that we have it will be physically impossible for them to unpack all of their things at once. but please let me know if you do this at your camp. I personally love it I think it's so nice for the kids to arrive and everything is just fully ready for them
