Research by economist José García Montalvo of Pompeu Fabra University projects that around 1.5 million American workers will take the day off on November 19 when GTA 6 launches and the estimated hit to US economic output is close to $1 billion. The demographic driving most of the projected absenteeism is young men aged 18 to 30, with the tech sector flagged as particularly exposed given how easy remote work makes it to quietly disappear for a day. It is worth noting the methodology has not been peer-reviewed and the figure is an estimate rather than a government forecast, but the historical precedent is real. When GTA 5 launched in 2013, surveys found that around 6% of 18 to 35-year-olds in New York and Los Angeles skipped work on day one. That was on PS3 and Xbox 360. The irony is that Take-Two is projected to bring in around $1 billion in sales revenue on the same day, essentially absorbing the money that leaves the US economy, with a significant portion of it heading to Rockstar Games. #grandtheftauto #rockstargames #grandtheftauto6 #gta6 #gamingnews
