One of the coolest adventures near Flagstaff… literally. 🥶🔦 We explored the Lava River Cave, a 700,000-year-old lava tube hidden beneath the forest. The cave is about ¾ mile one way, so you’ll hike roughly 1½ miles underground over rocks, uneven terrain and a little scrambling. Plan on about 1.5–2 hours to explore the cave and make it back to the parking area. A few things to know before you go: 🔦 Bring a headlamp + backup light. It is PITCH BLACK. 🧥 Bring layers. It stays around 35–45°F inside. 🥾 Wear good shoes. The rocks can be slippery and uneven. 🚗 Parking/day-use fee is $5 per vehicle. 🐕 Dogs are not allowed inside the cave. 👧 I’d recommend this for kids around 6+ who are comfortable hiking, climbing over rocks and being in the dark. My kids are 10 and 15 and loved every minute of this hike. Definitely one of the more unique adventures we’ve done in Arizona! 🌲🪨🔦 #LavaRiverCave #thingstodoinarizona #Arizona #ArizonaHiking #explorearizona
