I decided to sit down and study again. I have spent so much time simply trying to survive that sometimes it feels like my days are disappearing without me being able to do anything for myself. I don’t want to let that happen. I want to keep learning, keep moving forward, and make use of whatever time I have left in my day. I opened my books, but there was no electricity and no proper light. Around me, there was almost complete darkness, with the constant sound of drones filling the sky. I only had one small light, and then a mother cat came and sat beside me with her little babies. She stayed close to the light while feeding them, while I stayed there studying. I was using that little light to learn, and she was using it to take care of her babies. For a moment, we were both under the same small light, each of us trying to continue our lives in our own way. Maybe this is what holding on looks like—trying to build a future while everything around you makes it difficult to even think about tomorrow. I may not be able to change the life around me today, but I can choose not to waste my time.
