The story behind ValksArtGallery. ValksArtGallery is more than a shop to me. It is something I built from creativity, persistence, and the desire to create something beautiful that truly belongs to me. My name is Maria. I was born in northern Portugal and later made Canada my home. Art, beauty, colour, emotion, and design have always stayed close to me, and ValksArtGallery became the place where I could finally bring all of those things together. Why I create. I create artwork because I believe what we place on our walls matters. A piece of art can completely change the feeling of a room. It can make a space feel peaceful, dramatic, romantic, nostalgic, elegant, joyful, or deeply personal. I want to create pieces that make someone stop, look again, and imagine them in their own home. A diverse collection. My collection is intentionally diverse because my inspiration is diverse. I love dramatic florals, vintage elegance, Victorian women, peaceful landscapes, spiritual artwork, old-world imagery, modern abstracts, and pieces that feel timeless and emotional. Some days I am drawn to soft ivory, blush, and muted green. Other days I want deep blue, burgundy, charcoal, gold, or dramatic shadows. I create by following that instinct. How my art is created. Sometimes I start with a colour combination. Sometimes it is a flower, a woman, a landscape, an old painting, a room I imagine, or simply a feeling I want the piece to have. I direct the concept, composition, colours, mood, lighting, proportions, and overall style. Then I refine. I want the finished work to feel warm, artistic, and alive. Technology is one of the creative directions I use. The refining process. I may change the background, remove elements, rebuild parts of the composition, change colours, adjust shadow, and soften texture. Sometimes I create many versions before one finally feels right. I can be extremely particular about details. A flower may need more breathing room. A face may need more expression. A colour may feel too artificial. A background may be too busy. I love texture, visible brushwork, depth, shadow, and the character of traditional paintings. Created with real homes in mind. I think carefully about how the artwork will actually be used. Many pieces are prepared in multiple aspect ratios so customers have more freedom when choosing a frame or print size. I prepare my digital artwork in high resolution whenever possible so it can be printed beautifully in both smaller and larger formats. I also spend a great deal of time imagining each piece inside real interiors. I look at how it will look on a white wall, a deep green wall, a modern home, a traditional room, a small hallway, or a large statement wall. A small independent art business. ValksArtGallery is not a large corporation. There is no huge department behind it. It is me. I create the ideas, make the creative decisions, prepare the collections, build the listings, and continue learning as the gallery grows. Every purchase supports an independent creative business and allows me to keep creating.
