Two Mexican entrepreneurs, Adrián López Velarde and Marte Cázarez, set out to change how leather is made. After years in the fashion and automotive industries, they saw the damage caused by traditional tanning and the cruelty behind animal hides. Determined to create a sustainable alternative, they left their jobs and began experimenting with one of Mexico’s most resilient plants, the nopal cactus. From this vision came Desserto, a vegan leather made from cactus leaves. It is durable, flexible, and so close in feel to animal leather that it’s nearly impossible to tell the difference. The crop requires little water, grows naturally in harsh conditions, and eliminates the need for toxic chemicals like PVC or phthalates. Beyond being environmentally responsible, Desserto also offers variety and creativity. It comes in multiple colors, textures, and thicknesses, making it suitable for fashion, furniture, and even cars. Each piece demonstrates that sustainability and style can work hand in hand. Through their company Adriano di Marti, Adrián and Marte are proving that innovation can protect animals, reduce pollution, and support local farmers. Their cactus leather shows that the future of design can be both ethical and beautiful. Company: @desserto.pelle #Sustainability #veganleather #desserto #design #innovation
