I decided to relate this song to the racism that Black people experience within the Muslim community, where Africans are seen as lesser Muslims than the Arabs. We have imams making racist jokes, saying the N word, calling dreads haram, or telling us that we cannot wear our cultural attire, even when we are fully covered. There is this idea of how a Muslim should look and somehow that image is often centered around Arab culture and doesn’t include black people. Islam was never a religion for Arabs. Islam is for the entire world. Bilal ibn Rabah, a Black man was the first person to call the adhaan. Racism does not end in America, Europe or secular society. It also exists within religious communities. Black Muslims should not have to choose between their Blackness and Islam. #black #frankocean #islam #africans #muslimtiktok
