Airtel Africa is shutting down its Kenyan wholesale fibre business, Telesonic, just two years after launch. The unit struggled to turn a profit, making a loss of 1.6 billion shillings in 2025. The company has surrendered its license to the Communications Authority of Kenya, and the regulator has approved the deregistration of the company. This exit is attributed to mounting losses and limited returns. However, this does not affect Airtel Kenya's mobile network, consumer services, retail, home, or enterprise fibre offerings. Competitors like Safaricom, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, and Seacom have established infrastructure powerhouses.
