Hi, dermatologist here Many people have sent me this video I guess because they found it shocking However, I wouldn't call this a villain era for this skincare routine because this is like the oldest trick in the book When you dilute bleach in water what you get is hypochlorous acid The thing that they're putting in all those sprays that everybody's spraying all over themselves Now diluting a small amount of bleach in like a full bathtub has been an approach that we dermatologists tell people to take quite often specifically people with eczema This practice has been around for decades and initially it was thought that it was helpful for these people with eczema because at times their skin could have a burden of staphylococcus bacteria on it and it was thought that those bacteria cause more inflammation in the eczema lesion So in cutting down on them you're improving the eczema However, we've also found that hypochlorous acid can be anti-inflammatory and specifically hits markers that are up regulated in people with atopic dermatitis AKA classic eczema So that bleach bath is not as crazy as you think
