Part 3 👀 And now we need to talk about Emma Borden. Emma wasn’t even in Fall River when Andrew and Abby were murdered. Historically, being away doesn’t prove anything. But in my reading, I don’t feel like Emma was nearly as disconnected from what was happening inside that family as it might appear. I feel like she knew there was some kind of plan involving Andrew, money and a confrontation, but I don’t believe she necessarily understood how far it would go. Then I keep seeing something else: money changing hands AFTER the murders, with Emma and Uncle John connected to it. Was it payment? Financial help? An old agreement? Or money meant to keep somebody quiet? And if BOTH sisters knew pieces of what was happening, suddenly Lizzie’s behavior afterward starts looking very different to me.
