Stryker’s SportSuite Vision app has been used in its first hip arthroscopy at Duke Health, a major milestone for augmented reality use in the operating room. Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Chad Mather wore the headset to view a live arthroscope feed, CT scans, and data from Stryker’s HipCheck and HipMap tools within a customizable field of view. The system received FDA De Novo authorization on July 17, becoming the first surgical application cleared for intraoperative use with Vision Pro. Stryker says the setup can reduce reliance on multiple monitors and improve ergonomics by keeping clinical information visible inside the sterile field. The procedure does not necessarily establish better patient outcomes, but it highlights a potentially valuable medical role for Apple’s $3,499 spatial computer.
