I spent WAY too long thinking being good at hair and having a full diary meant I was good at business. It fu*king doesn’t If I could go back and teach newly self employed me ONE thing, it would be to know my numbers from day one. Not just how much money landed in my bank that week. I mean actually knowing What does it cost me to do each service? How much do I need to earn every month BEFORE I’ve paid myself? What percentage of my takings disappears on colour, stock, rent, tax and all the other boring shit? How much am I ACTUALLY making from an appointment once all of that has gone? Because you can take £300 behind the chair in a day and feel like you’ve had a cracking day… But £300 TAKINGS and £300 PROFIT are two very fu*king different things. So if you’re self employed, do this Pick your three most booked services and work out the REAL cost of delivering each one. Then look at what’s actually left for you. That one little exercise will tell you more about the health of your business than how many weeks ahead you’re booked. Being busy is easy to measure. Being profitable is what actually fu*king matters. #hairdressercareergrowth #socialmediaforhairdressers #personalbrandforhairdressers #incomeoutsidethechair
