Transcript

I will not be a black woman who sacrifices everything for everybody. I don't want my memories to be the mom or the grandma who didn't live her life and looked out for everybody. Like I don't want that to be my only memory. I've seen black women in my family, black women around me that all they do is sacrifice and they have nothing to show for it besides high blood pressure, diabetes, and a broken heart. I want to be remembered as a woman who lived, who explored, who was herself at all times. I want my my son to know my mom didn't sit and bend her back at every given time she lived and I want him to want the same for his wife. I want that to be his normal. I don't want him to think it's normal for black women to just break their back all the time, you know.
