This Maine trail is one of the most dangerous in the USA… which apparently translated to “sounds fun” in my brain. 😂 This is the Precipice Trail in Acadia National Park, and this is definitely NOT your normal walk-in-the-woods kind of hike. The trail climbs more than 1,000 feet in less than a mile up Champlain Mountain using iron rungs, ladders, narrow ledges and some VERY exposed sections of cliff. The National Park Service even warns that serious injuries and fatalities have occurred here. (National Park Service) And I LOVED it. 😂 There’s something about a trail where you actually have to climb, scramble and figure out where to put your hands and feet that is just so much more fun to me than walking uphill for three hours. A few things to know before you go: 🥾 Do NOT attempt this one when the rock is wet or icy. ⬆️ Hike the Precipice UP, not down. The NPS specifically warns against descending this route. (National Park Service) 😳 And if you’re afraid of heights, really think about this one. There are sections where there is absolutely no pretending you aren’t on the side of a mountain. The trail also closes seasonally for nesting peregrine falcons, so always check current conditions before you go. (National Park Service) Basically, if your reaction to seeing iron rungs bolted into the side of a cliff is “absolutely not”… I understand. If your reaction is “WAIT, WHERE IS THIS?!” We should probably be friends. 😂 Send this to the person who would climb it with you. And follow @lafftravel if this is also your idea of fun, because I have a feeling you’re going to like it here. 😂✈️ #PrecipiceTrail #AcadiaNationalPark #MaineHiking
