Fortnite's Rocket Racing mode goes offline tomorrow, October 1, and it marks the end of a mode that never quite found its audience. Developed by Psyonix, the same studio behind Rocket League, Rocket Racing launched in December 2023 as part of Epic's push to expand Fortnite beyond battle royale into multiple genres. LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite Festival both found their footing. Rocket Racing did not. Epic announced the shutdown back in March alongside the removal of Fortnite Ballistic and the Festival Battle Stage, all three casualties of low player counts. All official Rocket Racing tracks and user-created islands built for the mode will be removed, though any cars and vehicle customisation items players bought will carry over to other modes. It is the third official Fortnite mode to be shut down this year, raising questions about how Epic approaches building and supporting new experiences inside the Fortnite ecosystem long term. #fortnite #fortnitenews #rocketracing #epicgames #gamingnews
