Modern Warfare 4 is introducing a brand new mode called Collateral, and it is a direct response to the popularity of Counter-Strike and Valorant. The mode strips away Call of Duty's traditional loadout system entirely. Before each round, players spend earned cash to buy their weapons and equipment from a shared pool. Die and your loadout resets, you start the next round with nothing and have to buy again. Cash carries over between rounds, meaning smart play and successful rounds compound over time while poor rounds leave you underfunded. It is a significant change from how CoD multiplayer has always worked, and one that brings the economy-driven round structure that has made CS2 and Valorant so tactically deep into a more accessible, faster-paced framework.
