Death row inmate Gary Wayne Sutton will no longer be executed in Tennessee this year after the state paused all executions following Christa Pike's failed lethal injection. Sutton, 57, had been scheduled to receive a lethal injection on December 3 for the 1992 murders of siblings Tommy Griffin and Connie Branam, but Governor Bill Lee has halted the state's remaining executions through the end of 2026. Sutton has maintained his innocence for more than 30 years, while his lawyers also argue that his documented intellectual disability makes him ineligible for execution under state and federal law. His legal team said they were 'relieved' by the pause but stressed that their fight to overturn Sutton's death sentence will continue. #garysutton #deathrow #tennessee #usa #news
