I was caught in the crossfire of my parents’ abuse—something I later experienced from my father and then my stepfather. No child deserves that. No human being deserves that. I will forever be an advocate for survivors of childhood abuse and domestic violence. I wish someone protected little layla but I know how deeply these experiences can shape you, and I believe there is power in speaking about the things we were once forced to suffer through in silence.
