I’ve got an update on my Monstera Devil Monster from @MOOSE ROOTS 🌱 Once it was acclimated and well rooted in sphagnum moss, I had a hunch that I wanted to move it into one of my special homemade aroid mixes. I make tons of different mixes depending on the plant and pot size, but for a smaller Monstera like this going into a 4-inch pot, I felt really comfortable with equal parts: • Coco coir • Pumice • Vermiculite • Fine orchid bark This mix has tons of airflow but holds onto just enough moisture to keep the roots happy. You might want to add more or less coco coir if you need the mix to hold onto moisture differently. It really just depends on your environment. When I can, I also like putting a setup like this inside a cover pot with a small reservoir of water underneath. I have a habit of letting my plants go pretty dry, so that extra moisture below gives the roots something to reach for before I get around to watering again. As always, I fertilize with GT Foliage Focus, and this plant has been getting around 500–1,000 foot-candles of light. So far, it’s been rooting and sizing up really nicely! And as you might know, I don’t spend a ton of money on plants. I like to patiently wait for the best deals and grow plants from small to large myself. So if you want a Devil Monster, personally, I’d go for an inexpensive tissue culture right now and try growing it out myself rather than spend thousands on a large import that could potentially go downhill during acclimation. Much less risk on the wallet. I’m seeing TC prices around $30–$100, while imported plants can still range anywhere from around $400 to $2,000+. Follow along if you want to see how this plant develops! And sorry, I can’t help you find one of these really cool pots! I found these at Target a few years ago marketed as vases, thought they were so cool that I bought them all up, and I haven’t seen them available since. As always, if you want to check out the grow lights, fertilizer, clear pots, or amendments I use to make my potting mixes, you can find everything linked in my profile or on my Amazon Storefront.
