Dressmaker launched on Steam to an overwhelmingly positive reception, and the story behind how it was made is just as remarkable as the game itself. Developer Ruan Rothmann built the game for his wife, who lost her ability to sew due to a medical condition. Unable to continue the craft she loved in real life, the game was his way of giving it back to her virtually - every mechanic, from choosing fabric to cutting patterns to feeding garments through the sewing machine, was built with her in mind. The game went from a free Itch.io prototype put together in three weeks to over 155,000 downloads, millions of social media views, and 400,000 Steam wishlists before launch. It is now sitting at Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam. One of those rare stories where the reason something was made is just as good as the thing itself. #dressmaker #cozygames #newgames #WhatToPlay #gamingnews
