Cheesy Beef Sloppy Joe Toasts These cheesy beef-loaded toasts are made with seasoned ground beef, tangy tomato sauce, toasted bread, and lots of melted mozzarella. They’re easy, filling, and perfect for a quick family dinner. Ingredients 1 lb (450 g) ground beef 6 thick slices of French bread or Italian bread 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese ½ small onion, finely diced 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 cup tomato sauce 2 tbsp ketchup 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1 tbsp brown sugar 1 tsp yellow mustard 1 tsp paprika ½ tsp onion powder ½ tsp garlic powder Salt and black pepper, to taste 1 tbsp olive oil Instructions Cook the beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook for 2–3 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Season: Add garlic, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir for about 30 seconds. Make the sauce: Add tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and mustard. Stir well. Simmer: Reduce the heat and simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef mixture becomes thick and saucy. Prepare the bread: Place thick slices of bread on a baking sheet. Toast them in a 400°F (200°C) oven for about 4–5 minutes so the bottoms become slightly crisp. Add the beef: Spoon a generous amount of the beef mixture onto each slice. Add cheese: Cover generously with mozzarella and cheddar. Bake: Return to the oven for 5–8 minutes, until the cheese is completely melted and bubbling. For extra browning, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end. Serve: Let them cool for a couple of minutes, then serve hot while the cheese is still stretchy. Tip For the same juicy, homemade look as the photo, don't make the beef mixture too dry. Leave it slightly saucy so some of the sauce runs over the edges of the toasted bread before the cheese goes on.
