In 1912, Austrian-born inventor Franz Reichelt traveled to Paris with an ambitious idea: a wearable parachute suit that could allow people to safely escape from buildings or aircraft. On February 4, 1912, Reichelt decided to test his invention from the Eiffel Tower. Despite concerns from those around him, he believed the suit would open during the fall and slow his descent. Cameras captured the entire experiment, making the footage one of the most haunting and recognizable pieces of early aviation history. Tragically, the parachute failed to deploy, and Reichelt fell to his death. His experiment became a dramatic reminder of the risks faced by early pioneers who pushed the boundaries of aviation and parachute technology. #FranzReichelt #AviationHistory
