Dakota County might just ruin living anywhere else for you 😅 Especially if you’re raising a family. I lived in Minneapolis before moving to Lakeville, and I can tell you, life looks a little different down here. And I mean that in a good way. You still have access to Minneapolis, the airport, shopping, restaurants, and pretty much everything you need. But you come home to something different. Neighborhoods where kids are riding bikes, playing basketball in the driveway, and running between each other’s houses. Summer evenings at the neighborhood pool. Parents sitting outside talking while the kids play. Saturday mornings at the soccer fields. That’s pretty much what our life looks like these days. And I love it. One of my favorite things about Dakota County is how many different ways you can live here. You can buy a newer home in Lakeville or Rosemount with walking trails and playgrounds throughout the neighborhood. You can find an established neighborhood in Eagan or Apple Valley with mature trees and larger yards. Or you can get a little farther out and find a few acres, some privacy, and room for the kids to run around. Then there’s all the stuff you actually get to do with your family. Beach days at Antlers Park. Hiking at Lebanon Hills. The Minnesota Zoo. Cascade Bay in the summer. Apple orchards in the fall. And yes, you’ll spend a lot of time driving your kids to sports. 😂 But that’s kind of the point. When my wife and I think about where we want to raise our kids, it’s not just about the house. It’s about what our everyday life looks like outside of it. And for us, moving to Lakeville was one of the best decisions we made. Just make sure you pay attention to your commute. Depending on where you work in Minneapolis and which part of the county you choose, that drive can look very different.
