I so badly wanted to believe this would happen for us. At 4mo I was struggling between feeling like I should sleep train because “teaching independent sleep is what good moms do” and the instinctual pull to follow my baby’s needs. Before I gave birth, I was dead set on sleep training, crib/bassinet sleep exclusively & instead, for 14 months, we’ve coslept, contact napped & nursed to sleep. I didn’t have a baby with an easy going temperament. I didn’t have a baby with high sleep needs. And I didn’t have a baby I was willing to “break”. She’s never slept through the night. I’ve worked every hour of the last 14 months next to or holding my baby. But I also got over 5000 extra hours of contact with her. Time I can literally never get back. Little by little she’s shown me that everything we’ve done to help her sleep is teaching her to do it on her own. Tonight she put herself to sleep to sleep as I sat here watching. She’s figuring it out. And I’m already missing it. I chose to follow my baby’s lead. This is what worked for US. Do whatever works best for you. But for the moms who felt the way I did… trust. It will all work out 🫶 #sleeptraining #cosleeping #ftm #healthyattachment #baby
