In the dark, and it could be like this for days. We're following breaking news. Neighborhoods around the Bay Area have no power because emergency power shutoffs are now in effect to reduce fire risk. Let's check out PG&E's outage map. The areas you see there in purple is where the power is out. And we are seeing more of these public safety power shutoffs than we've seen in recent years, and this might be just the beginning. NBC's Alyssa Goard joins us in Walnut Creek this evening where the power is out there. Alyssa, people were warned, but it's still frustrating. Yeah, Raj and Jess, it absolutely is. And people did get the advanced notice, but they say that doesn't erase the inconvenience of not having power. In fact, people in this area whose power was shut off were pretty upset, and they're worried about how long this could possibly last. The neighborhood around Shell Ridge is especially dark tonight after neighbors say their power was shut off at around 5:30 this evening. We panicked. We panic set in a little bit and kind of the uncertainty of knowing what is to come considering that there's some challenges that we have with no power, such as taking care of an elder. Neighbors did get notices from PG&E that public safety power shutoffs were coming, but it doesn't make losing power any easier. Things are pretty quiet, except for the hum of generators at the homes of those lucky enough to have them. Now, people are left making do in the dark. Have to go to my dad's house now to do anything, because, you know, can only live so much by a, you know, headlamp. We don't have a gas stove or anything like that. It's all microwave and electric stove and dishwasher. But as you can tell, this particular PSPS is larger than ones we've had in recent years, and that's because of these very dry conditions, the the gusty winds that we're expecting, and also the very dry materials on the ground. PG&E expects throughout this weather event, they'll turn off power to 88,000 Californians, 11,000 in the Bay Area. The goal to prevent fires. So far, communities in Contra Costa and Alameda counties have been impacted as well as Napa and Sonoma counties. As for the hills around Berkeley, Oakland, and Orinda, they've also been put on notice. They could lose power as early as 5:15 tomorrow morning. PG&E says this could last as long as Saturday, and the power may come on sooner for some areas than others. Well, we don't have an exact time. We do want customers to be prepared for a longer than normal outage. Now, if you don't have power, PG&E does have community resource centers set up where you can get things like charging for your devices, water, supplies. Those will open at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. The ones closest to here are at the Danville Costco and the Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church. Live in Walnut Creek, Alyssa Goard, NBC Bay Area News.
