Today I am officially divorced. PRAISE THE LORD! I filed for divorce 256 days ago. I spent 10 months fighting to be free. And since we share a kid I am still not free. I am still being abused. I am still being threatened and harassed often! But I am legally divorced! 20k later. I gave up a ton of money because I just wanted to be safe and be gone. I gave up my home. And proved to myself that I can provide for me and my baby! Even when I was dealing with post separation financial abuse which is NOT legal yet would have cost me more money upfront to correct so I just started providing for us instead. In April we both verbally and in writing agreed to temporary support. But he never paid. It was hell. I moved out so I could sleep at night without worrying about him breaking into the house while I slept. And once I moved out he decided he did not need to be financially responsible. so many empty promises. And I was somehow shocked every single time. I always want to believe he’s honest…. So please learn from me - you cannot trust people who have shown you they will cheat and lie. You cannot reason with unreasonable men. When you have been abused your entire marriage (I was not aware while i was in the marriage lol) you will think you can compromise enough to protect you. It’s a trap. Every single thing I’ve tried to compromise on just taught him that he can bully me and I will break. but I am not stuck anymore. I am not embarrassed to be divorced. I am not embarrassed to be cheated on or to have been abused. Because I know I was a good wife! I truly honored God and thought if I just tried more that my husband would be kind and sober. spoiler he wasn’t. so today i celebrate that I am free of him. that God has protected me so far and shall continue to provide for us. I pray i will pay off my lawyer fees somehow! I brought 16k of savings into our divorce. And left with none of that, it was all taken and spent. I will never understand how a man who makes 6 figures a year can force the mother of his child, to have no financial support. After he begged me to be a SAHM. To leave me with zero money. To withhold all money and support because i left.
