The 2023 Austrian Grand Prix: Verstappen's Bold Pit Stop This goes back to the 2023 Austrian Grand Prix, where Max Verstappen completely dominated the entire weekend. He started by securing 8 points in the Sprint race. When he lined up for the main race on Sunday, he was once again in total control. By Lap 68 or 69, he had built a massive lead of around 24 seconds over Charles Leclerc. Suddenly, over the team radio, Max asked his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase (GP), for a pit stop. The Red Bull mechanics were caught completely off guard, and the commentators were shocked, wondering what on earth they were doing. Max dived into the pit lane, the crew executed a lightning-fast 2.3-second pit stop, and he rejoined the track seamlessly. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc took the final turn to start Lap 70. Max powered through Turn 1, emerged safely out of the pits, and completed a totally successful stop. Then, on Lap 71, he pushed flat out to set the fastest lap of the race, putting the absolute finishing touch on a dominant victory!
