Did you know that contact lenses already existed in the 1940s? Long before modern soft lenses became popular, people were experimenting with ways to correct their vision using small lenses placed directly on the eyes. During the 1940s, contact lens technology was undergoing major improvements. Earlier lenses were often made from glass or rigid materials and covered much of the eye, making them uncomfortable to wear for long periods. In 1948, American optician Kevin Tuohy developed a smaller plastic contact lens that covered only the cornea, helping pave the way for modern contact lenses. Historical footage from this era offers a fascinating look at how people adapted to this unusual technology. What seems completely ordinary today was once a remarkable innovation that changed the way millions of people corrected their eyesight. #VintageTechnology #History
