Their other posts in the index, biggest breakout first.
spend the day with me as I live every coder / gamer's dream. I got invited to the League of Legends world finals by AWS and Riot Games in London. I'm excited to watch a couple of gamers battle it out on stage for the first time. First off, I checked in, got ready, grabbed some breakfast. It was already packed with all sorts of events and pop ups. I knew about League but never actually played it. So I did my best to learn. Please ignore me, literally doing everything wrong in the game. Now, as a software engineer, I really couldn't help but wonder, how does Riot use AWS to keep millions of players active? I grabbed an AWS engineer on site to spill some secrets on the key AWS services used for the backend is Amazon EC2 for the game servers and they're run in clusters using Kubernetes. One of the biggest challenges when it comes to this setup is definitely solving latency. Next up, the main event, the World Finals. The energy was insane from Linkin Park's epic opening to every sweaty kill in the game. AWS powers the global rankings with Lambda and RDS giving fans live updates on huge screens like this, which makes it even cooler once you kinda know the tech needed to make a game at this scale run flawlessly. In the end, T1 took it home again. Shout out to my boy Faker. Catch me on the stage with you next year though, once I actually learn. By the way.
