You ever wanted to start learning how to day trade options but you feel like every other video out there has just been too complicated for you to understand or some person just doesn't resonate with you, this is one of those videos you want to watch to the end. In this short video I'm going to break down everything that you really need to know to understand how to trade options and how you can actually start doing it right now. So let's get into it. First things first is understanding what is options. Options trading is a form of trading that allows you to make money in the stock market whether a stock goes up or it goes down. There's two main things you can do to make money in the stock market when you're trading options. You can buy calls or you can buy puts. Now what are those? When you're buying a call you're basically betting on a stock to go up. So think of picking up the phone. You're making a call. The phone is up, so you're betting on the stock to go up. And the opposite is true. If you want to buy puts then you're betting on the stock to go down. So think of putting the phone down. You're betting on the stock to go down. Now that you understand what a call and what a put is, now let's talk about options contracts. What an options contract is is the right but not the obligation to be able to buy 100 shares of a particular stock. Now tell me as you're making a little too complicated, I'm about to click off this video. Just hold on a second. Let's basically say me and you had an agreement on this contract right here. And on this contract it basically says, hey, if you take this contract and you go redeem it, you can redeem 100 shares of Amazon stocks. So what you can do is now take this contract that now you can redeem at a future date for 100 of Amazon shares and you can go sell it to somebody else. So let's say a call for example. You're betting on Amazon stock to go up. Say Amazon stock is currently at $150. You wanted to buy calls to make sure that you can make money on the stock going up. So first you have to choose a strike price of the options contract. So the strike price is basically the price that you think that Amazon stock is going to get to by a specific date. Every single option contract has an expiration date. So basically this contract agreement that we had is going to expire on next Friday. Which means you have the right to be able to sell this contract up until next Friday. So if Amazon stock starts to move in your direction, let's say you buy it at $125, you're betting that it gets to 130. Let's say it gets to 127, you're in the profit, you can sell this at any time. Now what you're basically doing is selling this contract to somebody else who wants to now see if it can get to 130 or further. The same thing applies with puts as well, betting on the stock to go down. What happens if the stock goes against you? Let's say you buy calls on Amazon stock thinking it's going to go to $130 but it end up going down. Well this contract that you have right now is now selling at a lower price than where you bought it at, which means you're losing money. So your focus before trading is to understand technical analysis or reading a chart. By using a multitude of different strategies that are out there, like support and resistance, supply and demand, ICT, smart money concepts, the straddle, so on and so forth, you're able to look at a chart, read a chart and make an educated decision on where you think the stock is going to go to. Now let's talk about the platforms that you can actually do this on. So the most commonly known platforms to trade options on is going to be Robinhood number one and Weebl. I personally think that Weebl is really good but you guys can use either one of them. I'm not endorsed by either of them. However, I do believe as a beginner, Robinhood is going to be the easiest. Weebl is going to be something as you trade a little bit more often you're going to realize I think I like this platform more. Once you set up your Robinhood or your Weebl account, you want to make sure you sign up for a level 2 options trading account. There's a ton of like 3 minute, 4 minute videos online that you guys can go watch to actually learn how to actually fill out the application as well. This will give you the ability to actually take trades on your account. Now next, this is a very key thing that every trader needs to know before they start trading. You always want to start a cash account, not a margin account. A margin account is basically you trading with borrowed money. And with trading there is a lot of risk that is associated with it and you do not want to trade with money that isn't yours until you understand the craft and you have a lot of reps under your belt. A cash account is basically when you can trade with what's actually in your account. The next thing that's going to be pretty important for most options traders out there is the time of day that you should be trading. I personally trade when there's a lot of volume in the market, when there's a ton of people trading at the same time because this usually gives you the best returns. So those times of the day are going to be early in the morning between 9:30am Eastern to about 12pm Eastern right before lunch, and then also from 3 to 4pm Eastern which is one hour before the stock market closes. Oh yes, the stock market is open from 9:30am Eastern all the way up to 4pm Eastern if you guys are looking to trade options or buy shares. You can also do something called swing trading where you buy a contract one day and then you can hold it closer to your expiration date. So if you buy it on a Monday, you can hold it all the way up until Friday. If you actually made it this far into the video, I want to give you a 6 hour free course that you can go through to understand everything about the options trading game. However, if you're the type of person where you have a 9 to 5, you have an active income or you have a few thousand dollars liquid and you really wanna understand more about options trading, you can also comment the word workshop down below to be able to join a free live trading workshop where I'll be breaking down all of this stuff to about 1,000 traders in one zoom call.
