this was the first keepsake case vs now this was the first keepsake case this keepsake case now there's just been a massive improvement over the last few years to go into exactly what we've done the mistakes I've made I still have hersh is my first ever keepsake case on a production run both of these top trays they do fit normal size paper documents that never changed however you can see here that the depth of these scallops did change this was just way too thin and I learned that very very quickly second batch of keepsake cases ended up being this depth which was about 8 millimeters still too thin uprealizing later on another difference between the first keepsake and the upgraded keepsake case this hardware is super rusted now this has been sitting in my garage for a very long time we originally had these hinges and then we ended up upgrading them to these which we still use those exact same hinges today just a little bit of a different color about joinery because that is very important even though it that didn't matter what type of wood we it didn't matter our manufacturer meter joints were not going to boxes so for the newer keepsake cases they've all been updated to use rabbit joints you can also see the thickness to 12 millimeters they're much heavier they're much thicker also reluctant to do but we ended up adding a lock and key to the keepsake cases but I designed it so you could also just use it as a regular latch I'm the type of person where to lock anything I'm going to use a proper safe but we've had so many people request a key with their keepsake case because of course the keepsake case we designed to not only fit your sentimental things but also fit documents on the in the bottom compartment I am so not proud of this product I still have customers of this keepsake case from a year and a half ago who still love it is perfect but I'm not and especially knowing where the keepsake case is now I just know even a year from now the keepsake case is also going to evolve into something else probably like I was once so so so proud of this product when was a major improvement but then when I realized oh could be so much better but it's gonna be so much more expensive to produce I'm gonna lose margins I'm gonna need to change my manufacturer I'm gonna need to change my materials if I only cared about margins and money I would have probably always kept the keepsake case this so hopefully was interesting seeing a little before and after then and now of the keepsake case look at how far we've come
