let's return this geography book from the 1800s to its rightful family. if you're new here my name is Chelsey and i return lost heirlooms to families using genealogy using genealogy of course. as soon as you open this geography book you see the name Fred a Hodgman Charlestown New Hampshire 1889. i also see there's another name at the end of the book which i assume is a student around the same age that was also using this book. i think this says Grace and Lamb but we will confirm later. having more than one name on an artifact is actually so helpful. so on MyHeritage i'm going to search Frederick a Hodgman and the place as New Hampshire. i'm also going to check match name exactly because we know that is the exact name. i know in the book that it said Fred but Fred is 99% short for Frederick especially if this is from 18 hundreds. nobody was giving out Fred as a baby name at that time. let's search and so we know that these would be too early if this is the school workbook. this could be something and this could be something. i like that this says a in the middle because we know Fred middle name was a and this residence looks pretty on point. so let's click on this census record. so looking at these ages if he was 8 in 1890 that means he was probably around 17 when he had this book which sounds about right. i have a really good feeling about this one but let's search that other girl's name we found in the book and see if her age correlates to his or matches up to his. basically i'm thinking if we look her up and she has a similar to exact age as him at this time and then we can pretty much confirm that this is the right Fred. so here i'm gonna look up Grace a Lamb. i think that's her last name and then keen because we know she definitely lived in Keen New Hampshire. oh and there she is. we know this is exactly her because 214 Washington Street was also the address she put in this book. i am running out of time but here i found a census record with her in it from 1900 where she was 27 which means that in 1890 she would have been 17 the same age as Fred. by the way i know this script is really hard to read but once you do this enough it'll get way easier. i'm really running out of time but i found him on find a grave and he died at a really early age. he does say here that he had a spouse so i'm hopeful for descendant but come back for part 2 because i wanna know why he died early
