The Beauty of Aging on The Runways

newsfash 70s #sherpajacket newsfash the two most arresting, most stunningly beautiful women I've seen this fashion month are Elisabetta Dessy, who you might recognize as a favorite of Matcu Blazi, and Stephanie Cavalli, who you might recognize as a favorite of Matcu Blazi. Chanel. Now when I was looking at Kiera Ackerman's quite terrific collection for Tom Ford, and Stephanie Cavalli, who I also spotted in this Max Mara front row shot by the Sartorialist, it dawned on me that when I was in Milano, I stood behind her at this small little cafe you might have heard of, Starbucks, and was truly awestruck by the woman's beauty and presence. I was intrigued, didn't realize she was a model. There's lots of great people watching in Milano, but there was something about her, I had to know more. Who was the woman behind this face, this glorious face? And it turns out not only is she worked with Fendi, Valentino, and Valentino for decades now, and now in her late 60s is proof that women can get better with age, which is saying a lot because in the 70s she was the captain of the Italian Olympic swim team. So let's just address the elephant in the room. When it comes to aging gracefully, I don't know about you, but I do not look at women my own age or younger. Increasingly in today's day and age, we're constantly met with our own reflection and becoming increasingly aware of every perceived flaw and wrinkle. When you see this level of natural beauty in real life, and I saw it in Paris when I was passing by Chanel's Rue Cambon headquarters and was leaning outside, seemingly having coming or going from a fitting, even from across the street, I was extremely moved by her beauty. And because so many of our places and spaces are filled with artificial faces and bodies these days, increasingly designers are turning to models like Elisabetta and Stephanie, who is Guadelupe by the way, because as Mucha Prada, she's at Miu Miu, would probably agree, this is the type of woman they've really like to see their work on. A woman who's unafraid to step forward into the future as her authentic self. And in my own life, I live primarily in Los Angeles, so I'm used to it. But honestly, it doesn't matter where you are these days because we're all online constantly and don't see enough of this. For instance, this exact look on the Gucci runway, which they're showing similar versions of with one of those Gucci faces, wouldn't have been nearly as compelling or fresh. Where is the face that looks like this works so well from a fashion standpoint? Because it speaks to all these notions that we associate with luxury, fashion, heritage, experience, quality. The type of woman, I don't know if this is relatable, but I seek to be, who is active in her own life and comfortable enough in her own skin, engaging in the world around her, not the mirror in front of her, accepting the journey versus obsessing over every treatment and tweakment and surgery.
