I've been taking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 8 weeks and these are things that I wish I knew going into it as a girl. The first is the fundamental positions and what you're trying to achieve. There's a lot of strategy involved so I recommend watching a bunch of YouTube videos about it the first time you go. You can wear whatever there and then you change when you get there. Don't wear your gi to the gym (seems like it is a rule bc no one does it). Also do not wear shoes or socks on the mat. General hygiene is also a thing - keep your nails trimmed, don't come to the gym gross (like don't run to the gym), and brush your teeth. The second is what to wear. So this is called a Gi. It's a kimono+pants combo. Most gyms have them for rent so you can either train with these or do something called No Gi which is essentially spandex. It's much harder. The third is how physical it is. It is truly like full contact like you're fighting people and also my gym doesn't have AC so it's super hot already and sweaty so you have to get used to that haha.
