finally, a new laptop

I've had this laptop for almost 10 years now and I'm sure that we can all agree that it is time. And you don't say much. My friend teases me day. This is a MacBook Air 2017 and my brother got it for me, uh, back in 2018, right before my uni. And I wanna say it cost around 350k, maybe 370 then. But back in 2023, after my Masters, I just noticed that I stopped using it as much. And that's because everything I wanted was already on my phone. I have my TV, um, work laptop for my job. So this personal one kind of just sat there collecting dust. The only time I'd really pick it up was job hunting and having to do interviews. So there wasn't any real need to replace it. And it's something I'm quite intentional about if I'm being honest, 'cause my iPhone, I had that for five years before I changed it. So if something still works, I keep it. This mindset only changed last year when I started getting more into AI, learning how to code, and just generally trying to do more beyond my 9 to 5 for the laptop. So it was at this point, feeling the discomfort, things taking longer than they should, apps lagging, trying to run certain tools like the laptop, struggling to keep up. Like, even my Sims 4, I couldn't play Sims 4 anymore. On sending a prompt to an LLM agent, so many examples of me just sat there waiting and something is just loading and on this decision throughout March. But yesterday, I in the morning, I am going to get it now. It on my phone, I chose in-store pick up 'cause I didn't want to wait for delivery 'cause I'm travelling and the mall is just a 20 minutes walk from me. I went for the latest MacBook, M5 chip with 1 terabyte storage and 16 gigabytes memory. And can you believe in the year of our Yemoja 2026, MacBooks don't come with power adapters anymore. I know they started it with iPhones like, you know, years ago, but this is the first MacBook series that with a power adapter. I was actually going to add it to my order but I forgot. So I said I'll pick it up in store. I ordered it by 6:00 am and by 10:00 am it was ready for pickup. While at the store, I did not expect that I would have a full 30 minutes conversation with one of the specialists that attended to me. It started with him helping me choose the right power adapter, explaining the different watt options and what would actually make sense for a MacBook with the M5 chip as well as my workload. And somehow the conversation just shifted. He asked what I do, I explained, and then he mentioned that he had a job interview coming up for data roles, not so much on SaaS, data roles not. Next thing I know, I'm standing there, you know, going through the job description, talking things through with him while he is attending to other customers in between. It was very random, but also just one of those normal conversations that end up meaning something. Um, I did give him my number and we've been talking, so I really hope, you know, he gets the job. At the end of it, he actually gave me a discount, which I really like. But sometimes it's not even about getting anything out of it, it's just about being present and actually engaging with people properly, which I really love about myself. I feel like I can talk to anybody. Anyway, back to my almost 10 year old laptop. I can be quite sentimental when I've had for a long time. A very long time. This laptop has done exactly what it needed to do for all the my life. And for that, I am super grateful. And I'm also grateful to my brother as well for getting it for me. But I am no longer 17. I am no longer 17 and how I spend my time completely different. The things I'm are super different. So I need something that can actually slowing me down. No matter how sentimental I get, 'cause it actually make this decision. I know it being dramatic and I'm doing much for a laptop, but a a joke. So yeah, thank you so much. Also selling this laptop would honestly insult and I'm not ready to recycle it either. So this isn't goodbye yet. You know, software is my gig, that's my lane. Um, hardware and as I get further in my studies, I'm hoping I to this bad boy and rip it apart. So stay tuned, I guess.
