Anime websites are pinnacle of software engineering. If you didn't know, Crunchyroll is attacking these beautiful anime websites and it's genuinely because it's top tier engineering. Not only is the U.I. more clean, more beautiful, more responsive, they have created a distributed system that is fault tolerant. I will not be surprised if these anime websites like HiAnime, KissAnime, AnimeWatch, ZoroTV have a higher availability than Crunchyroll. I used to watch anime on a YouTube video to the side and then Crunchyroll came around and the website and the U.I. was horrible. When Crunchyroll went down you couldn't watch anime. You're paying 11, 12 dollars a month and you couldn't even watch the thing that you were paying for. But these anime websites use content delivery networks across the globe to give you anime at a fast and responsive speed. Now Crunchyroll is attacking the infrastructure that holds these anime websites together. At first they were doing D.M.C.A. takedowns and all you had to do was switch the actual U.R.L. or just come back again. That's why HiAnime came back in like a week or so. But now they're attacking the content delivery network. What is that? Basically, if you have a server that holds the anime video, you put it to another server that's closer to you so you can watch that anime faster and quicker and more reliably. And if that server goes down, another server holds that same video so you can watch it on that server. It's a fundamental piece to distributed systems. But if you attack these companies like Cloudflare, who holds these content delivery networks, and tell them to take down the servers that hold copyrighted material, you then don't have anime websites anymore. As an anime watcher, software engineer, and computer science student, I will never switch to Crunchyroll. It's bad infrastructure, it's bad U.I., it's bad business. Never in my life would I do it.
