3 Degrees Parents LOVE... But Employers Are Questioning.

3 degrees that parents absolutely love, but the market doesn't reward it anymore. For more career advice, make sure you follow me. And before anyone gets angry, I'm not saying these degrees are useless. All I'm saying is the prestige isn't there anymore. At number three is psychology at a bachelor's level. Parents will hear psychology and they'll think therapists, counselor, and a stable career. But here's the problem: most of these careers require either master's or a doctor or PhD level degree. A bachelor's level degree will only push you to like HR level, business admin jobs, or you could just end up in a sales job. Jobs that don't actually require psychology in the first place. At number two, we have law. Honestly, law still has status, and every parent that hears law, they think about a lawyer, they hear security, they hear money. But the legal market right now is very split. The top graduates cream of the crop might succeed, they'll get jobs in like big firms and do really well, but that outcome is not for everyone. Recent Law Hub report showed that the unemployment rate for a law degree, a law graduate is about 10%, and law degrees can be very expensive. At number one, the most unexpected one is MBA, Masters of Business Administration. This literally used to be the golden ticket. I wanted to do an MBA, but now even the elite MBA students are struggling. Harvard, which is one of the top schools, showed a report that 24% of the MBA graduates were still unemployed three months after graduation. That's literally up by 10% in 2022. And other top schools around the world also showed the same outcome. And the reason for this is your consulting firms, your finance firms, the classic MBA pipeline have slowed hiring. And then we have AI, which has started automating a lot of the work that MBA students used to do from modeling, research, and planning that junior MBAs used to do for the firms. So the lesson here isn't don't study these degrees. The lesson here is don't go for a career that sounds impressive at a family lunch. Choose based on your passions, on the skills that you have, the outcomes that you want to see, the cost of that particular degree, because if you're the best at that particular field, you'll most probably be employed.
