So these are some of the degrees with the highest unemployment rates right now and a couple might surprise you. In the number two spot and the first surprise is computer engineering. Now you may not feel like this is the biggest surprise due to AI, but if you think back like five to ten years ago, these were the degrees to have. Probably from 2010 to maybe 2022, if you had gotten a job at Google, Amazon, Oracle, Salesforce, you were on the up and up. And that coincides with maybe surprise number two, computer science for the same reasons. But the companies that were hiring these people like crazy, think Amazon, Google, Salesforce, Oracle, they're the ones that had major layoffs recently. Some say it's the impact of AI replacing people that have these jobs, but one of the underlying reasons might be the fact that some of these companies over-hired people with these degrees during the pandemic and now executives are just trying to like resize the operation. Also want to point out number nine here, early childhood education, because this is indicative of a broader issue that the United States is facing and that's a declining birth rate. Fewer people are having children or at least having children right now and they're deferring childbirth until later. So even on a basic level, that means that there's less demand for daycare and other early education opportunities. Daycares and even school districts are struggling to get enrollment up which leads to layoffs.
