My app is over 16,000 users. Here's how to not get fined when launching your app. Number one is auto-renewal disclosure. The FTC's auto-renewal disclosure requirements dictate that businesses must clearly and conspicuously disclose material terms of subscription programs (such as pricing, frequency of charges, renewal deadlines, and) the FTC requires you to show users that they're signing up for a recurring charge on the same screen as the buy button. Violating the FTC Act or its associated rules can result in civil penalties of up to $53,088 per violation. Other consequences include consumer. Next is Apple & Google billing rules. If your app charges subscriptions through the Apple Store or the Play Store, you are required to use their native in-app billing systems for digital goods. This means charging by passing the in-app purchase. Bypassing this to avoid paying their fees is a terms of service violation and they can legally withhold every dollar that you've made. Number three is simple cancellation. The FTC's 2024 update requires cancellation must be at least as easy, and offered through the same medium, as the sign-up process. For if it takes three taps to sign up, it should also take three taps to cancel. Hiding the cancellation function can cost you $51,000 per user. Number four and most importantly is free trial term. If your app offers a free trial, businesses must send a notice between 3 to 21 days before the trial ends. If more than 1% of your users end up disputing a charge, your entire account can be frozen for up to a year. If you need one-on-one help, join the community in my bio.
