I got rejected and I needed it. I’ve been applying to jobs telling the story of someone who’s really good at their job. Turns out that’s not enough anymore. Every interview I’ve had has spent maybe five minutes on the actual job and the rest on workflow optimization, AI tools, and operational efficiency. While it’s only one bullet point on the job description our entire conversations in the interviews have been about this. They don’t want you to save yourself time. They want to know you can do the work of two people in the time they’re paying you for one. My resume wasn’t telling that story. My networking conversations weren’t telling that story. My interviews weren’t leading with that story. They are now. So while, yes, it does suck, I’m learning in real time how to master this job search and bringing you along with me.
