You need to emotionally break up with your job. Do your job well, but detach yourself from the outcomes. If this is something that you struggle with, here's a quick 1:01 on how to decenter work. Fill your life with as much joy as humanly possible. That way, you don't have the time or capacity to think about work when you're not on the clock. Accept that you're gonna have to do the fun things, tired, but do them anyway. Motion creates energy, and waiting until you feel ready is not gonna work in this case. Go on side quest. Try something new. Meander. Find things to do before or after work. Next, start introducing yourself without mentioning what you do for work. Also, put your schedule and your working hours in your email signature if your job allows to. Create and maintain those hard boundaries with work. Sometimes it's not even the work itself taking over our life. It's the mental space that work takes up. Create a brain dump or a parking lot that you can use to dump work related thoughts and ideas when you're not on the clock. That way, anytime you have an idea, a thought, a worry, a concern, another to do as it comes up, have a place where you write it down and get it out of your head and then don't act on it until you're back at work. This helps you clear the mental space so that you can actually have the capacity to enjoy the life that you're building outside of work. Because what good is it if you have fun things to do, but you can't actually enjoy them because all you can think about is work? Follow for more.
